Understanding Longevity

Due to dental bonding being a noninvasive procedure compared to other more extreme methods ,Permafangs can last anywhere from 1 month to 5+ years. This timeline depends on many factors which vary person to person. While this range may seem variable, many find that with proper care, they can enjoy their Permafangs significant period.

Common permafang breakage occurs within the first week to the first month. During the first week, it indicates that there may have been an anatomical issue in the bite that affected the structure of the fang. This could be related to the shape or alignment of your teeth that might not have been fully accounted for during the application.

In the following weeks, breakage is most often associated with TMJ and tooth grinding. This can be prevented by regularly using a nocturnal mouth guard.  Failing to use a mouthguard while sleeping or regularly grinding your teeth can put pressure on the structure of the fang, which can lead to chips or breakage. Two common scenarios is waking up with a fang broken off, or after sleeping, finding that it has come loose and loosing it during a regular daytime activity.

In my experience after finding the source of the issue and replacing the fang during this time, rarely are additional replacements needed.

Factors Influencing Longevity

  1. Tooth Shape and Size: The natural shape and size of the tooth can influence how well the bonding material adheres. Irregularities or atypical shapes (ex. Small teeth, extremely chipped) may lead to less surface area for bonding.

  2. Enamel Quality: The thickness and health of the tooth enamel can impact how effectively the bonding material adheres. Weaker enamel may lead to reduced bonding strength. This can also come with age and smoking.

  3. Underlying Tooth Structure: Any pre-existing issues like cracks, decay, or fractures in the tooth can compromise the bonding process.

  4. Bite Force: Individuals with a strong bite or those who grind their teeth may exert more force on bonded areas, leading to quicker wear or damage.

  5. Dental Anatomy Variations: Unique anatomical features, such as deep grooves or pits in the teeth, can affect how well bonding material can fill and adhere to the surface.

  6. Underbites and Cross bites: Combined with tooth grinding, having an underbite/cross bite can lead to a greater chance of the fang coming off prematurely due to increase pressure, as your teeth would be naturally closer together when you bite.

Longevity and Styles

  • Shorter Styles: Generally, shorter permafang styles tend to have fewer replacement issues. Their reduced length means they experience less stress during regular use, leading to a longer lifespan with minimal maintenance.

  • When deciding on your style of permafangs, please consider that each additional fang increases the likelihood of something happening to them. With a greater number of fangs, there are more surfaces that can be subject to potential breakage.

Replacement Policy

With my replacement policy, you can enjoy your Permafangs knowing that I will stand by my work and are here to support you through any initial adjustments.

The replacement policy is available at request

Please note that I can only offer replacements up to three times after the initial installment. This helps us avoid potential damage to the enamel and ensures that we’re protecting the integrity of your teeth.

When the policy does not apply;

I will communicate with you what fang styles will work best with your anatomy. Ultimately, if you insist to go against my recommendations regarding your anatomy or care instructions, the replacement policy will not apply, and this will be verbally confirmed with you during the appointment. By opting to proceed against my guidance, you take the risk with premature breakage.

How does the replacement policy work during tours?

When installing your fangs on a tour, the replacement and repair policies that are typically accessible may not be available for clients who are out of state.

By choosing to get your permafangs on tour, you acknowledge that any replacement will be limited.

Should you experience any issues, I encourage you to reach out.

Options include;

-Getting a replacement on a tour nearby

-Traveling to my location to get a replacement

-Going to your local dentist for a replacement/removal
